Day 19: Taking the 'House, M. D.' Comparison a bit too Far

Ok, yes it has been a coupla days since my last blog post, and while this may be normal in some circles where you can only find enough material to fit into, say for example, five blogs a month, this is unusual for me I know. I went "outdoors"ing in northern Arkansas, and before I post any details about anything, I will say something that was painfully evident the second we got out of the car: Although I may meet The One in Arkansas, or have some connection to her THROUGH Arkansas, I am thoroughly convinced she will not come FROM Arkansas.

By the way, Arkansas is in the Bible. "Noah looked out of the ark-and-saw. . ." Horrible joke from my dad.

Anyways, let's get this thing going.

About two days before my lovely vacation to the hick land of Arkansas, I took a funky step at work and kinda jolted my knee a little bit nothing too big. We wrapped it for a few days, but it didn't get better, so after we got to our hotel for night 1 in Arkie we bought a knee brace. Day 1 we decide to go hiking. Found one dirt road that led us to another that led us to another (all pretty much unmarked), and we finally saw a sign that signified the trailhead. We decide to do the 2.5 mile trail to a 'hidden' waterfall.

We start going down the trail without reading too much into the details besides that, and it takes about 10 minutes for us to realize that there'll be a coupla steep spots on the trail. Or make that alot. By the time we got to a signpost that said ".2 miles to falls" we'd already spent 2 1/2 hours hiking, and about an hour of that was stopping so the sister could take a break. Long story short, she took alot of breaks, the "waterfall" was a joke, and on the way back we took even more stops and ran out of water. My knee started to give out, so it was decided that since it was a matter of time and not effort that was making my knee worse, both my sister-in-law and I were sent ahead of the group to get to the car as fast as possible. We took the rest of the trail in 30 minutes going uphill. My sister-in-law took water, and went back down the trail while I stayed at the top to rest. So the 30 minute trip we took was 1 1/2 hrs for the rest of the family.

Trail from hell. Let me tell you what we found when we all gathered at the trailhead. The trail was a 2.5 mile hike down a 2000 ft mountain, with the following warning posted "The trail is steep and strenuous" (understatement) and "Those with physical handicaps should not attempt this trail" (wish I would've known that). We were supposed to take 3 trails that day. We only took one.

Next day canoeing. I basically got a canoe to myself and chauffeured my sister down the river. It was a four mile trip, 6 hour float. We took it in 3 hours which includes our hour lunch break. Beast. Knee was worse afterwards.

We spent all Tuesday in the car, and as of this morning, I've been officially diagnosed with a sprained left knee. I've been hobbling around wishing for a cane, and then it came back to me: I talked about a house episode a few days back. House's bad leg is his right, and I have a bad left leg. As much as I would like to learn the lessons he learned as the seasons wear on, I don't want the bad leg just yet. I want to sort out this glaucoma thing first (I don't know if I've mentioned it, but I'm a 'suspect' for glaucoma). I'd rather not have a bad leg this young.

Next up, I just saw a Karate Kid commercial. As dumb as I thought the movie was, one of the reasons it's rated what it is is because of "bullying". BULLYING. Since when do we screen movies for bullying? Are they aware bullying of some form exists in most movies? Daredevil? FINDING NEMO? It's ridiculous. The nerve of some people!

On another note, I'm taking ideas for an EP album title. Currently the top prospect is "the best of You (the worst of me) the ep" (capitalization errors are intended). It's going to feature 6 songs, 3 of those instrumental, and I hope to have it online in about a month, EQ'd and all.

That's all I have for tonight. It's good to be back.
